Yun Xie, writer director based in Los Angeles, born in Shanxi, China. She started storytelling as a journalist right after college, and soon found herself fascinated by the arch of life’s experiences. The curiosity to the idiosyncrasies of human behavior lead her way to her master degree in theater directing at Shanghai Theater Academy. 


In 2014, Yun came to the United States, focusing on film directing at School of Visual Art. Her thesis film, The Still Life, cowriter with her professor, Oscar-winning screenwriter Alexander Dinelaris, won the Remi Award of WorldFest-Houston International Film Festival.

In 2016, Truth or Dare, her debut feature, nominated Best Picture at Syracuse International Film Festival. Short film Pier Las Vegas, was invited to several international film festivals such as FIRST and Stockholm, in the winner of 2019.

At the end of 2020, her documentary series, Why We Dance, was selected to St.Louis International Film Festival and American Documentary Film Festival.

In addition, Yun was awarded “Top Ten Outstanding Chinese American Youth” in the Los Angeles Post praised her over 50 international film festival selections.

 

Yun made her film out of the lifelike characters, capturing the struggle and the wonderfulness. The films, filled with all the empathy and inspiration, are unique exist amid.
